WHAT IS A GIRL SUPPOSED TO DO?

Its almost a year since I finished NYSC, no job still. I don tire. I've been involved in different buying and selling from bags to sandals to hair sef. Lool, before I started my own shoe company. I make sandals and flats for both male, female and even kids. It's a good business but money to fund nko? Its a problem. I decided to use retained earnings, that's money gotten from the business to fund it but it's so hard when you have so much responsibility. One thing or the other always comes up.

Okay, I decided to get a job, one that would help me fund my business (if the business doesn't suffer) and help sustain my family and be somebody. I have applied ooohh, I've gone for few interviews, no luck. Sigh! One company even picked another candidate over me because she charged less, I mean wayyyy less.

Even when you go for these interview they ask you some kind of questions and you'd be wondering "am I here to learn?" I mean I'm a girl with no post NYSC experience, a BSc degree and zeal to want to know more and learn a lot. Is that not enough? Oh, they tell you, take courses to add to your CV, but that one cost money too. Even when you take these courses, there is no guarantee that you would get a job. I mean you need to apply all you learnt on the job.

I love finance, I love budgeting, I'd like to build a career in budgeting, personal financial planning to be precise. I have checked for companies involved in such in Nigeria, no luck. The closest thing to it is investment banking. Nobody wants to hire anyone without experience and 'degrees'.

I love what I do, I enjoy it. Making sandals and flats for people and seeing the joy on their face when I deliver to them. NOTHING BEATS THAT, but some people just kill your morale, wheew! People would price your market ehn. They'd say "you're just starting" "you're too expensive" lol, "reduce your cost". One upcoming fashion designer even said "your brand is new, reduce your cost". Lmao. Upcoming o! Bro, we all tryna make it. They don't even think of your cost of production. I use good quality materials and they are expensive. Nobody wan hear.

I love to budget too, building a career in it won't be a bad idea but making a decision on what I should do is really hard. I mean I could get a job and the business suffers or I focus on the business but no money to build it.

  2. You can't channel the same amount of time into your job and the business, but both can still thrive if u plan right. Get the job, cos the cash would always come in handy, then u can device an alternate means to cater for d biz.
